Minneapolis Early Childhood Family Education Online Parent Education Offerings

ONLINE PARENT EDUCATION:
Our online parenting classes allow you to access research based parenting information on a variety of topics at your convenience, work on assignments to build your understanding and skills, and participate in a parent educator facilitated live chat weekly with other parents. Classes ‘meet’ for 5-6 weeks with different topics being offered throughout the school year. Online materials will be available to view prior to the start of class.  Register for one or all 5 classes offered in 2013-2014!  (for class prices see sliding fee scale on page 20 of our brochure)
 
FALL/WINTER SEMESTER
Positive Discipline (Birth-Kindergarten): Learn how to guide your child’s behavior using positive, esteem building strategies. Review research based discipline information and share your questions, struggles, and successes during our live chat Wednesdays, September 18-October 16, 8:00-9:00 PM
 Infant Class (0-12 Months): As your baby's first and most important teacher, we invite you to partner with us in your parenting journey through our online class. Join other new parents to learn about: infant development, attachment, babies' sleeping and eating pattern, play activities for your baby and becoming a family.                                                   
Live chat Tuesdays, October 8 - November 12  8:00-9:00

Getting Ready for Kindergarten (Pre-Kindergarten): Learn how to get both your child and family ready for kindergarten in fall 2013. Research based materials will describe fun activities to promote early literacy and math, how to foster social-emotional development, and ways to be involved in your child’s education. Discuss all the issues related to school readiness during the live chat Wednesdays, October 30 - December 11, 8:00-9:00 PM (No Class November 27)

  
WINTER/SPRING SEMESTER

Terrific Twos (24-36 months): Learn about your two year olds developmental capacity, how to handle discipline and encourage language and literacy. Research based information will guide the live chat Wednesdays, January 15 - Feb 12, 8:00-9:00

ECFE Parent Connection Now Links to Minnesota Parents Know
As of fall 2012 ECFE Parent Connection will no longer be available. The Minnesota Department of Education sponsors the Minnesota Parents Know website which provides all of the information and services MPS ECFE Parent Connection has provided. Parents Know has access to the most current, trusted information and resources to help your children grow and develop from birth through high school. In addition, the website offers a Parent to Parent forum where you can ask questions and dialogue with other parents throughout the state. Go to Parentsknow.state.mn.us and see all this website has to offer.

Online parent education can be a quick and easy way to get the support and connection you need to be an effective parent.  You can connect at your own convenience which can be helpful when you are busy with young children!
