ONLINE PARENT EDUCATION:
Our online parenting classes allow you to access research based parenting information on a variety of topics at your convenience, work on assignments to build your understanding and skills, and participate in a parent educator facilitated live chat weekly with other parents via GoToMeeting. For class prices see sliding fee scale on page 19 of brochure. The following classes are five weeks with a weekly online chat. 
 
Positive Discipline (Birth-Kindergarten): Learn how to guide your child’s behavior using positive teaching strategies that build your child's sense of inner discipline. Review research based discipline information and share your questions, struggles, and successes during our live chat. Live chat (Fall / Winter Semester) Tuesdays, September 16 - October 14, 2014  8:00 - 9:00 p.m.  (Winter / Spring Semester)  Wednesdays, April 15 - May 13, 2015     8:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Raising a Spirited Child ( Birth - Kindergarten) Learn about the temperament traits that define the spirited child and strategies to help turn these traits into assets for a lifetime. Live chat Tuesdays, November 4 - December 2, 2014 8:00 - 9:00 p.m.

 

New Option   The following classes have abundant research-based information related to the topic and are fromatted in weekly 'chapters.' Register for any of these classes and review the information at your own pace. Each 'class' will also include  an online live   chat option via GoToMeeting. The discussion will be guided by a licensed parent educator and offered at least once a semester. Fee for these classes is $25 and access to the informationis for the entire school year.

Getting Ready for Kindergarten (Pre-Kindergarten): Learn how to get both your child and family ready for kindergarten in fall 2015. Research based materials will describe fun activities to promote early literacy and math, how to foster social-emotional development, and ways to be involved in your child’s education. Tender Todlers  or Terrific Twos (12 - 24 months): Learn about your toddlers or two's developmental capacity, their temperamental makeup, their struggles for independence, how to encourage language and literacy  and how to guide their behavior. Infant Hot Topics (0-12 Months): Learn about infant development, attachment, sleeping and eating patterns, play activities for your baby and becoming a family. Live chat Tuesday, October 28, 2014; Wednesday, February 25, 2015; Tuesday, May 26, 2015  8:00 - 9:00 p.m.

The Minnesota Department of Education sponsors the Minnesota Parents Know website which provides all of the information and services MPS ECFE Parent Connection has provided. Parents Know has access to the most current, trusted information and resources to help your children grow and develop from birth through high school. In addition, the website offers a Parent to Parent forum where you can ask questions and dialogue with other parents throughout the state. Go to Parentsknow.state.mn.us and see all this website has to offer.
